Part-time undergraduate students
New students who started part-time courses after 1 September 2018
New ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ students who start their course after 1 September 2018 may be able to apply for a tuition fee loan and a maintenance loan from Student Finance England.
The amount you can get for your maintenance loan depends on your course intensity (the number of credits you study per year), where you live and your household income. The gov.uk website has a , which can give you an estimate on how much funding you may be entitled to.

How your student loan will be paid
Before any payments are made to you by the Student Loans Company (SLC), your registration on the programme must be confirmed. If the University or College Payment Advice page of your entitlement letter (sent by SLC - this is located in the 'your inbox' section of your Student Finance online account) states that you are studying at a different institution (not ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ), the information will need to be updated so that the Student Loans Company is aware that you are registered at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ.
After 1st September 2024: If you are a home student, ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ will notify the SLC of any changes to your university details on your behalf.
If you have a funding entitlement letter which is linked to another university, take the following action:
- Email the University or College Payment Advice page of the entitlement letter to studentfunding@dmu.ac.uk. Please include your full name and date of birth and briefly explain your situation.
Prior to 1st September 2024, you can make any changes to your Student Finance application (including your university or course details) via your Student Finance online account.
The earliest payment date for the 2024/25 academic year is 30 September 2024. If your application for funding is approved and finalised late, then any payments are usually received in your nominated bank account 3-5 working days after your registration is confirmed.
Student Finance England have produced the video below which explains the payment process.
First year students should note; student funding will not be paid to you on your first day at university. Therefore, you should ensure that you have funds available to you until this payment is made.

Repaying your loan
As a part-time student, will begin to repay your loan either in the April after you finish or leave your course, or the April 4 years after the start of your course, whichever comes first. You will only start to repay your loan after you are earning over the income threshold. You will repay 9% of anything that you earn over this income threshold. The amount you repay is based on your income, and not how much you have borrowed.
Interest is charged on your loan from the day the first payment is made until your loan is repaid in full or cancelled. The amount of interest you are charged does not impact the amount you repay each month.
