International Welcome Week 2021


From Monday 20 to Friday 24 September 2021 we will be welcoming all of our international students to ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ with a week full of face-to-face and virtual sessions.

The sessions will cover a wide range of topics including Healthy¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ, Leicester as a city for students, ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵsport, and much more.

If you are unable to join us in person, all the key information sessions will be streamed live online here. The sessions will also be available to view at a later date if you miss the original stream.

Monday 20 September

Welcome to ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ

A formal welcome to the university from the Vice Chancellor, Professor Katie Normington, followed by an introduction to International Welcome Week and information about how to get involved in the various events and activities.

International karaoke night
7pm-11pm
In-person activity
De Montfort Students Union, Campus Centre, 2nd floor

Come along to sing your favourite songs or simply watch the fun. It’s a great way to meet new people and admission is free.

Tuesday 21 September

City tour
9am
Meet outside the Campus Centre

An in-person tour of the city centre, which will explore the main shopping areas, the market and locations of banks and other services.

Wednesday 22 September

Open Faith

Our Healthy¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ OpenFaith initiative provides students of all faiths and none with wellbeing and spiritual support. Join this session to find out more about spiritual and pastoral support at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ. The Student Cohesion Officer will give you an insight of all the exciting projects that they offer in the Breathing Space, Sharing Space, Chapel and Prayer Rooms.

Thursday 23 September

Settling in at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ

A panel of ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ staff will be available to talk about some of the key issues for new international students and to answer any questions that you might have.

Sports Taster Sessions
7-10pm
Queen Elizabeth II Diamond JubileeLeisure Centre

Try the facilities at our leisure centre. Free table tennis and badminton sessions will be available – bring along your sports kit to take part, or come along to watch the fun. There will also be a chance to have a look at some of the other facilities available – including the climbing wall, swimming pool and fitness suite.

Friday 24 September

Day trip to Warwick Castle*
Departure 10am

If you are on campus and are no longer required to quarantine, get a taste of English history and culture with a day trip to this medieval castle. The county town of Warwick is next to the castle and you might want to spend time exploring the streets, shops and cafes. We expect to return to campus at around 5pm. We are planning further day trips from October onwards, as part of our Explore UK programme.

Saturday 25 September - Friday 1 October

Most UK students will begin to arrive at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ from Friday 24 September onwards. The following welcome activities are open to all students:

25–30 September
Your ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ welcome

Outside the Campus Centre

In the centre of campus, you can meet our Student Welfare Teams and find out more about opportunities such as volunteering, registering with a GP, ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ Sport and ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ Global at our stands.

Friday 1 October
Welcome event

Main campus

Make sure that you visit the main campus, as from 11am it will come alive with a festival atmosphere, and find out all you need to know about starting your ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ journey.

*If you've registered for International Welcome Week, you will be emailed a link to book a place on this event. Please note that numbers for this activity are limited, because of the capacity of the venue. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis.
