LGBT activism and representation
LGBT activism on campus plays an important role in the student educational experience: it both protects from discrimination by offering safe spaces to meet each one other and enables to fight against it by politicising sexuality and gender identity issues.
In February 2015 ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ celebrated LGBT history month. The #¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵpride Festival was launched in the Students’ Union building and more than 20 events were staged throughout the month to campaign for and celebrate the LGBT community at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ and across the city. ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ also proudly to flew the rainbow flag on campus for LGBT History Month during February.
¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ LGBT Staff Network and Committee
¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ has an active LGBT Staff Network and organises and takes part in events for LGBT History Month, IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia) and ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ Pride. All of ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ’s LGBT staff are more than welcome to join any of the meetings held throughout the year.
¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ Students Union LGBT Society
The DSU LBGT+ Society is a very active student society that provides advice, support and arranges social events throughout the year. Their website has lots of information including contact details and how to join their Facebook and Twitter pages.
