Short courses, study days and masterclasses

Our short courses, study days and masterclasses are offered for post-registration nurses, midwives and allied health professionals as “bite size” modes of study that can flexibly meet your professional needs. They do not carry any academic credits but you will receive a certificate of attendance for your revalidation portfolios.

All of our short courses, study days and masterclasses have been designed in conjunction with clinical practice to offer you the opportunity to continue your professional health care education through CPD study designed for a variety of healthcare specialities and settings.

Studying a professional masterclass or study day relevant to your clinical practice environment will allow you to build upon your specialist knowledge base, enabling you to develop and enhance the way you practice.

A key strength of our team is that they are experienced specialists in a wide range of clinical areas of practice along with visiting lecturers who also contribute to our short courses, study days and masterclasses to broaden your perspective of health and professional practice regionally and nationally. In addition, many of our teaching teams are actively involved in undertaking research within this area of clinical practice.

Please note, our short courses, study days and masterclasses do not provide you with additional registration on a professional register.

Fees and funding

Those working in the NHS may be eligible for funding through Workforce Development Funding with their employer

Entry criteria

  • Nursing students must have Level 1 registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Non-nursing students must have an effective registration with an appropriate UK Professional Regulatory Statutory body (PRSB) in health care.
  • Nursing students outside of the UK must have a registration with their national PSRB

Teaching and assessment

We adopt a range of teaching and learning strategies. You will be encouraged to develop a critical, evaluative approach to the knowledge which underpins health and professional practice.

Strategies include:

  • Teacher-led sessions
  • Student-led seminars and presentations
  • Discussions and tutorials
  • Independent study
  • Focused reflection
  • A range of experiential teaching methods
